Lateral Violence</h2>
<div>
Lateral violence in nursing is something I was completely unaware of before reading about it in Communications and Informatics. I know there will always be people that are difficult to get along with regardless of where you go in life, but bullying in the nursing field truly surprised me. I feel to be a nurse, it is important to have high values and respect for others, not only patients. Our job is to care for others, not only physically but emotionally and spiritually as well. It broke my heart to realize that "nurses eating their young" is a reality.</div>

<div>
Lateral violence in nursing not only causes unnecessary pain to the victim, but also compromises patient safety. If a new graduate nurse is being bullied at her new job, she is less likely to ask for help if needed. This can result in a mistake that could endanger a patient. </div>

<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Being surrounded by such supportive and friendly faces makes it hard to prepare myself for possible lateral violence in my future workplace. Although I hope I do not experience lateral violence, I know if I am in that type of situation I will not let anyone stop me from being my patient's advocate and speaking up for the safety of my patient.</div>
